The Merrywell

Surely a new Prime Minister deserves to be celebrated by visiting a new burger joint?!

The Merrywell just happened to be across the road from the trade show I was at today, so a burger for lunch seemed very appropriate. I have ridden past this place so many times on my way down Southbank, and it comes complete with the reputation of best burger from the guys at The Burger Adventure (albeit 2012 and 2013).

First impressions were that these guys are definitely doing their own thing. Big thick patty, and a soft white bun with plenty of flour floating on top.

Now that patty was oh so delicious, but it also contributed to all that was wrong with this burger. A thick, pink patty creates a lot of juice. Juice and a soft white bun creates a doughy experience that is akin to raw bread dough. Yuck. The bun was a MASSIVE let down, and I spent hours trying to rid myself of the excess flour. It was in my clothes, hair, face, everywhere!

Special mention goes to the delicious pickles used here. The sauces were ok, but not standout. Really needed some lettuce and tomato to add some freshness to the experience.

Later in the day, I went out for a bike ride to work off the empty calories. When passing this place, I didn’t even give it a second glance. I won’t be back.
